can kittens get coldsWill kittens colds clear up on their own?

My kitten have obvious colds. They are from wild mother cat who i see has a upper respiratory cough too. Everyone says take them to VETS but some people have no money.. so that is why I am here asking. No kill shelter says they are full and room for sick kittens. What happens in nature with them? Maybe I should just cut them loose back with the sick mother cat and nature run its course or better.. get real ideas about WHAT I CAN DO myself.. I have limited resources and I am trying the best I can. I let the stray cat help with her kittens.. one at a time so I can keep them gentle and adoptable.. Doing the best I can and I sure don't like some of the answers like GO TO A VET. Because that is not possible. I made that clear before. So how about some solutions I can try and not get all high and mighty with me! They have head colds. Just like I get and get over it in time.. What happens in nature? DO they march into a Vets office? Should this cold run its course in a week like in humans.. I don't go to the doctor. I stay warm and drink liquids and eat healthy food. Why cant this work on Kittens too. They are not lethargic. They just have sloppy eyes. Mommy cat licks them clean or I use warm cotton balls to help them. I can try the chamomile tea in the water.. I was hoping that someone would say my Fish Amoxicillin 250MG would help.. in smaller doses or something.. Anyone still want to help me here or should I stop posting altogether? Thank you for your time and energy.
I really hope you read this, I see alot of people ask questions but do not check for new answers. All my cats use the fish medications because you do not need a prescription from the money greedy vet lobbyists. They are the exact same ingredients as long as you buy them from a reputable place. The big thing is knowing the right dosage calculations. I had the cat flu(generic term) run through my cats about 6 years ago and it could have been devastating, luckily I found a good vet who cared more about the animals than the profit. He prescribed them Albon which is hard to get without a prescription. Unfortunately my vet retired and now I am stuck figuring everything out on my own, I have 25 stray feral cats and am a mother of 5 and a full time student, I do not have the money either. You said you had amoxicllian in 250 mg pills? capsule that open with powder inside? I will try to answer for either type. You need to know how much the cats weigh, I use a postal/food weigher that goes to 11lbs, pretty accurate cause I had same day animals weighed at vet for comparison. The dosage of Amoxicillan is 10mg (10mg must be precise) per 1.1 pound of cat. I wish I knew about how old your kittens were, you will need to treat the mother also, so as not to reinfect the kittens. treat them every 12 hours, twice a day for ten days. If it is a powder and I do not believe you have a mg scale, very hard to find a reasonably priced one, though I got mine at Amazon.com just open the pill up and divide out the powder in equal parts, 25 equal parts to gecan kittens get coldst the 250mg powder to 10mg doses, kitten are probably about 1lb depending on age, weigh them though food scale will work great. if it is a pill grind it down because such a small dose will be impossible to cut to the right size, except for the momma cats dose.
1. 10mg per 1.1 pound of cat.
2. every 12 hours give dose.
3. give for 10 days.
I have many other cat parasite, illness treatments with medications you can get cheaply just favorite me or something like that on here so I can see when you have other questions up and can answer them for you.
Forgot to mention if it is a virus of the cold/flu type no medication, vet given or not will work, these people should know that, the cats will either get better or not, just give them everything you can - food, warmth, love. Only bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics! Surrendering your cats because you cannot take them to a vet to treat a viral cold with no meds in existence to treat such a thing is ridiculous, no kill shelters are packed right now and the only options are kill city shelters. The animals stand a better chance with you than dead automatically!

Actually - Kitty you can give them Amoxicillian, vets prescribe it for all kinds of bacterial infections. My old vet who knew I was not an idiot, half the time or more never saw my cats I told him exactly what was wrong and he would give me the prescription. He also told me the names of many of the prescriptions that I could get without one to treat my cats. Numerous times he showed me the parasites he would find in the microscope because he knew I understood. Kitty I have taken a microbiology class for biology majors, got an A, in fact got an A in all my classes- full time courses! I know exactly what antibiotics do and which work best on Gram - or Gram + cells. I would bet you do not even know which you have, of course you could goggle it and pretend! Albon is an antibiotic just like Amoxicllian. Some work better than others but even vets will dispense a cheaper one that does not work as perfectly as another for cost effectiveness. Doxycycline is an excellent antibiotic but because it costs more than say tetracycline it is prescribed less. I of course have both, I spare no expense for my cats, I am just not going to starve my children and buy a Porsche for some vet to do it when I know how to do it myself! I go to the vet when I have no better alternative ie.. spay/neuter, tooth removal, or steroids which so far I can not find w/o prescription. All of which I will eventually have the ability to do at my own medical facility I am building on my own land soon. Once finished with my BSN degree, I am going to get my veterinary degree and license purely to take care of my cats by myself and with the help of my kids who all love their fur siblings. I don't just talk I have actions and deeds to back my words.
To get the proper dosage you have suggested I have put the 250 mg amoxicillin into a oral solution using distilled water and using simple math I have formulated it where I can give each can kittens get coldscat the proper dosage using a tiny syringe. Again thanks to everyone for responding..

Hi there, I was looking for basically the same thing as you are..I have 16 cats now, 6 of them are sick too and I use amoxicillan which IS the same thing the vet uses..I really would like to talk with you about cats/kittens, and how you made out, if you happen to get or see this at all.Thanks. Betty

I didn't see your other questions, but people can't change the correct answer just because someone can't do what's needed. As I'm sure you were told, kittens DO NOT get colds. This is a respiratory infection and it needs vet-prescribed antibiotics (not amoxicillin).

If you can't get this done, that's fine, but then you need to surrender the kittens to a cat rescue so they can get the care they need. You can find them by plugging your zipcode into petfinder.com.

They need a vet, whether you provide it or the rescue does. It's that simple and I'm not being high and mighty. A nasty infection can quickly kill a young kitten, and upper respiratory ones NEVER go away on their own, even with older cats who have developed immune systems.
I understand you money is tight with me too i have a kitten my self who i just love to death and i asked question on here about deworming her myself and everyone always say go to the vet.But i don't have money like that to take her to the vet but i know she eats plays and potty and her weight is great. So in your case i will wait it out and she what happen with your kitten cold he/she maybe fine good luck
It could be cat flu which will not clear up on it own and can kill younger kittens. They need to see avet. I understand the no kill rescue centers are full butmaybe if you ring and explain the situation thy maybe able to help by at least giving them free veterinary care and may know someone who would foster them. It is worth a call.
I got my cats when they were two months old and they both had nasty upper respiratory infections...bad enough that they were too sick to spay and neuter for another month. I had to give them antibiotics from a plastic syringe a few times a day to clear it up. And there's a good chance they would have died otherwise. Trust me, I am helping you here. You cannot give them the Amoxicillin. They need to be seen by a vet.

I can understand money being tight...but get online and search for reputable vet clinics that don't charge so much. Some of them may even let you set up a payment plan rather than paying the whole amount up front. I apologize if this sounds harsh, but if you can't take care of them, maybe it's time to consider giving them up to someone who can really give them what they need. It kind of isn't fair to force them to suffer and possibly die because you can't take care of them.

Good luck!
